EDGEWATER, Fla. —
A 4-year old girl will have surgery Monday morning after being attacked by a pit bull in Edgewater, authorities said.
The dog attacked the child Sunday morning in a neighborhood on Marilyn Drive, investigators said.
Fire rescue crews said the dog attacked the child, four adults who were trying to help, and another dog.
“It was terrible. It was awful because these are my friends, and the babies, they’re like my own kids,” said neighbor Janet Grupe.
Firefighters were able to keep the dog subdued with hoses and a fire extinguisher until police arrived.
Neighbors said the dog’s owner is out of town and asked the child’s mother to keep an eye on it.
The dog is at Edgewater Animal Shelter under quarantine.
The fate of the dog is unknown.
